Disney has been accused of carrying out a “sexist attack” against Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson as she sues the conglomerate for breach of contract.

A joint statement from Women in Film, ReFrame and Time’s Up defended the actor, commenting, “While we take no position on trade issues in the dispute between Scarlett Johansson and The Walt Disney Company, we strongly oppose the recent statement from Disney that characterized Johansson as insensitive or selfish for defending his contractual commercial rights.
“This attack on gender has no place in a trade dispute and contributes to an environment in which women and girls are seen as less able than men to protect their own interests without facing ad hominem criticism. . “
Johansson alleged that the simultaneous release of Black Widow on Disney Plus as well as in theaters violated his contract.
