Disney cancels annual passport program

Ten months after Disneyland closed due to COIVD, Disney parks suddenly ad that they will end their annual passport program and reimburse existing customers. A replacement for the popular unlimited pass has been promised, but it is unlikely to be offered until the pandemic recedes.

Premier Passport, another type of annual pass that grants entry to parks on both coasts, is also being canceled, per WDW News Day, an information site focused on Disney parks. More than a million people used the annual tiered pass, which offered exclusive perks like hours of travel after the hour, special events, movie previews and discounts. The end of the program shocked loyal fans, especially those in California, where the two theme parks – Disneyland and Disney California Adventure – have become viable daily or weekly hangouts for locals. Some advantages remain, however. Disneyland also announced that all active pass holders as of March 14, 2020 can still receive discounts on merchandise, food, and drink at open locations in the Downtown Disney District and Buena Vista Street. When a new annual pass program might be offered again, or whether it will have the same benefits, remains unclear. California theme parks can only reopen when COVID transmission rates reach minimum levels, in which case the park’s capacity would be capped at 25% and likely require reservations.
