Disney on Thursday announced plans to move 2,000 employees from Southern California to a new campus near Orlando, Fla., In an effort to increase staff collaboration and consolidate operations, according to a press release. .
Disney has been planning the move since 2019 and most of the employees who move are in the Parks, Experiences and Products division. Florida’s good business climate is also behind this decision.

Disney has a total of 203,000 employees worldwide, according to its 2020 annual report. More than 60,000 of these employees are already in Florida.
Disney says it will not be leaving the Southern California campus entirely, as the 2,000 employees expected to move in the next 18 months represent less than 5% of the total California employee population. Disney says they will pay the moving expenses for the 2,000 employees.
Disney is not the only company to have decided to move its activities to Florida. During the pandemic, Florida saw an influx of tech workers flock to the Sunshine State, greeted by the state governor who defiantly declared the state open for business last year much earlier than other states.
Companies such as Goldman Sachs, Blackstone and Elliot Management have made or are considering opening offices in parts of Florida.
