Disney Plus ‘Shang-Chi’ release delayed, but Marvel has a big surprise

[ad_1]

Disney CEO Bob Chapek announced the theatrical release Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings “An experience” before the premiere of the film. About a month ago. Studios found themselves forced to decide whether or not to delay some of their late 2021 attractions, stream them simultaneously, or have normal theatrical releases. Coronavirus cases have increased steadily throughout the summer, but Shang-Chi performed very well at the box office. The second MCU movie of the year approaches the performance of Black Widow, which got a day-and-date release in theaters and on Disney Plus Premier Access.

Shang-Chi’s performance confirmed that Disney is expected to continue with theatrical launches for various other films this year, including Marvel’s Eternals. This development further gave fans hope that Spider-Man: No Path Home would make its release date on December 17th. Corn Shang-Chi will air on Disney Plus sooner rather than later. And that’s not even the biggest Marvel surprise Disney has planned for the streaming service.

Shang-Chi Disney Plus release date announced

Disney said earlier this year that new films hitting theaters will air on Disney Plus approximately 45 days later. This implied that Shang-Chi would hit the streaming service at some point in mid-October. But it won’t. This is because Disney will be using Shang-Chi and other recent Disney films to celebrate the second anniversary of Disney Plus. It’s Disney Plus Day, as Disney calls it.

In other words, Shang-Chi will begin airing on November 12 to mark the occasion, alongside Jungle cruise, Home Sweet Home Alone, Olaf presents, and Hi Alberto.

Chapek announced that growth in streaming subscribers for the September 2021 quarter was slower than expected. He blamed the pandemic for production delays. The Disney Plus surprise event on November 12 is expected to spark excitement among current and potential customers.

“The first Disney Plus Day will be a large-scale celebration of our subscribers across the company,” Chapek said.

Marvel’s surprise announcements

Shang-Chi is the kind of movie that can draw people to Disney Plus, especially MCU fans who weren’t convinced about returning to theaters as the pandemic worsened again. But that’s not the only MCU content Disney is preparing for Disney Plus Day. Disney has announced that it will host a special celebration of the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Disney Plus. The studio teased “an exciting look to the future”.

It is too early to say what this means. But Marvel could show additional content from the upcoming Disney Plus MCU attractions. Hawk Eye, which premieres on November 24, is an obvious candidate. Ms. Marvel won’t be available on the streaming service until next year, but Marvel may disclose additional details about the TV show.

Marvel also has plenty of other TV shows in the works and several movies planned for the years to come. We may see additional surprise announcements on November 12, although it’s not clear how Disney will air them on Disney Plus.

The press release teases “the latest news, first looks, new trailers, exclusive clips and appearances from Disney Plus creators and stars.”

Apart Shang-Chi release and surprises from the MCU, Disney will also release a few animated shorts, including one The Simpsons episode that pays tribute to the Disney Plus brands. Finally, Disney has planned a Star wars celebration on November 12, focusing on Boba Fett.
