Disney confirmed Monday that its highly anticipated Disney + will be launched on almost all major streaming platforms.
The service, due to launch in November, will be available on popular platforms and devices such as Apple TV and iOS, Google Chromecast, Android, Android TV, Sony PlayStation 4, Roku and Microsoft's Xbox One, according to Variety.
Amazon's Fire TV is remarkably missing from the list, but it's possible that it will be added later. Disney expects to add new distributors to the service before launch.
To try to compete with original content such as Netflix, Apple and Amazon, Disney plans to launch its streaming service with Marvel, Star Wars and Disney content. It should also offer "reinvented" content from Fox's popular titles such as "Home Alone", "Night at the Museum", "Cheaper by the Dozen" and "Diary of a Wimpy Kid".
The service must be deployed in the United States on November 12 for $ 6.99 per month or $ 69.99 per year. Disney + will be available in Canada and the Netherlands the same day. Australia and New Zealand will benefit from the service a week later.
In Canada, Disney + subscribers will pay $ 8.99 CAD a month or $ 89.99 CAD a year. The service will cost 6.99 euros per month or 69.99 euros per year in the Netherlands. Effective November 19, Disney + will cost AU $ 8.99 per month or AUD 89.99 per annum in Australia and NZD 9.99 per month or NZ 99.99 per annum in New Zealand.
Earlier this month, CEO Bob Iger said he expects Disney + to expand to other markets over the next two to three years. He also announced that US customers could get an advertising-funded Hulu subscription, Disney +, ESPN +, for $ 15 per month.
