Disney has not announced any Blue Sky title beyond Nimona in 2021, which creates uncertainty about how (or if) they will integrate the Blue Sky from Greenwich, Connecticut, into the Disney brand. The game waiting on the future of the studio will continue for the moment.
In addition to these two films, Disney also announced the release of two other fully announced feature films: an adaptation of the Fox TV series. Bob's Burgers and Ron's Gone Wrong of the animation of the British locksmith.
Ron's Gone Wrong originally had to be directed by Alessandro Carloni and now by Pixar and veteran Aardman, J.P. Vine. This was the first of many features that Locksmith would produce for Fox (a co-founder of Locksmith is Elisabeth Murdoch, daughter of former Fox chief Rupert Murdoch), but Disney has not announced any other Locksmith titles beyond this initial film. Double Negative produces animation for Ron's Gone Wrong.
The cg / live-action hybrid that Disney has taken over from its acquisition of Fox is Call of nature, which will mark the debut in live-action of Chris Sanders (Lilo & Stitch, How to train your dragon). The film stars Harrison Ford.
All of these movies have in common to be about to be realized at the time of Fox 's acquisition of Fox. We do not know yet whether Disney will put all the weight of its marketing behind one of the releases, or will simply do the bare minimum to get the movies out, as it did with Strange magic, resulting from its acquisition of Lucasfilm.
Here are the release dates of the five films:
- December 25, 2019: Disguised spies (Blue sky)
- February 21, 2020: Call of nature (hybrid cg / live-action)
- July 17, 2020: Bob's Burgers
- November 6, 2020: Ron's Gone Wrong (Locksmith animation)
- March 5, 2021: Nimona (Blue sky)
