Disney Genie comes out of the lamp
The enhanced Disney Genie app will be available at Walt Disney World Resort through My Disney Experience from October 19. The free digital service, integrated directly into the My Disney Experience app, will personalize your Disney day with tips, personalized itinerary updates, dining experiences and entertainment suggestions.
The new service is free with an upgrade option available, confusingly called Genie +. This “plus” option has a flat rate of $ 15 per person per day of use. A user will be able to gain access to Lightning Lane (aka what was previously known as FastPass Queue Access) for a variety of attractions. Read ALL the details about the attractions HERE!
For some high demand attractions (example: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom Park or Star wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios), there will be a Lightning Lane a la carte selection upon purchase, giving you access to one hour to arrive at up to two high-demand attractions each day at multiple theme parks. The price for this enhanced Genie service option will vary depending on the date, ride, and theme park.
The Genie + option will also include an audio experience and unlimited Disney PhotoPass downloads, so guests get a similar experience to the much-loved Disneyland App MaxPass option that has been enjoyed for years at Disneyland Resort. Disney described Disney Genie + at Disney World and Disneyland as the next iteration of MaxPass.
The Disability Access Service (DAS) program will also be integrated with Disney Genie, including new options for registering for the program before arrival and for DAS participants to select attractions directly in the app. These options will be available in addition to Disney’s existing in-person DAS program.

Disney Genie and Lighting Lane queues
As FastPass + signage is removed from every park, we see Lightning Lane entrance signs, stickers, and candlesticks installed throughout Walt Disney World Resort. FastPass + kiosks have been retired in each of the theme park areas, and it looks like Disney is really streamlining the MagicMobile experience.
As Lightning Lane visually replaces FastPass queues, the Genie service start date will really dictate the replacement of the existing system. We have already seen that the virtual queue for Star wars: Rise of the Resistance took a hiatus for an unknown hour on September 23, 2021.
