(CNN) – Repeated visits to Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure have not been possible since the theme parks were closed at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. And now, the annual parks pass program is officially coming to an end.
Disney Parks announced on Wednesday that they would be canceling annual passes and replacing them with a new program. Holders of a qualifying annual pass will receive pro-rated refunds, the company said, the amount of which can be verified here.
“Due to the continued uncertainty of the pandemic and the limitations surrounding the reopening of our theme parks in California, we will issue appropriate refunds for eligible Disneyland Resort annual passports and terminate the current program,” said the president. of Disneyland Ken Potrock in a declaration. “We are currently developing new membership offerings that will use consumer insights to provide choice, flexibility and value to our biggest fans.”
It’s unclear exactly when the theme parks will open and when the new program will be unveiled. Disney had pushed California Gov. Gavin Newsom to allow the reopening of its theme parks for much of last year, although this was not allowed under state restrictions and the number of coronavirus cases.
Disneyland reopened as a “super” Covid-19 vaccination site on Wednesday, CNN affiliate KCAL / KCBS reported. Orange County officials say the site will be able to accommodate thousands of residents daily.
