More bad news for Magic Kingdom fans. A day after Disneyland President Ken Potrock announced a new round of holidays, all three Disneyland hotels stopped taking room reservations until December 31.

Some Disneyland fans were hoping that a functioning reservation system meant that a reopening of the park was in the works. Tuesday’s news crush those hopes.

The park is trying to help those who have currently made reservations before the end of the year by removing the change and cancellation fees imposed by Disney up to the check-in date for bookings with arrivals through December 31, 2020.

The good news is that the park plans to reopen the villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa from December 6. The rest of the great Californian will remain closed.

From an email sent to Disney Vacation Club members in California:

During the initial reopening period, most restaurants, amenities, activities and services will be modified, limited in capacity or unavailable based on physical distance and health guidelines. In addition, some areas and offers will remain temporarily closed or unavailable. While Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park are currently closed, the Downtown Disney District has begun a gradual reopening and offers a variety of shopping and dining experiences, including expansion to Buena Vista Street from 19 November.

Also on Monday, Erin Guerrero, executive director of the California Attractions and Parks Association – a trade group that represents parks large and small across the state – released a statement on Disneyland vacation and the rise in COVID in California. .

In it, Guerrero argues that while state and local authorities ask residents not to congregate in multiple family groups, “we can offer a safe alternative to family celebrations and backyard events – the specific types of opportunities that are spreading more and more ”.

Guerrero’s statement came as California Secretary of Health and Human Services Dr. Mark Ghaly announced that 11 counties in the state would step back into the reopening echelons of Governor Gavin Newsom. These included San Diego, home to parks such as Legoland and Sea World, which would slide even further from reopening.

California theme parks never make the decision to fire or fire employees lightly. The lives and livelihoods of park workers are completely tied to the parks where they work. Parks have gone to great lengths to keep their loyal employees throughout this pandemic, but the extended shutdown makes that impossible. This is why we continue to urge the Newsom administration to reconsider the impact of its Level 4 sentence for major theme parks in California. Current guidelines will keep theme parks closed indefinitely and leave thousands of theme park workers in poverty.

We are also following science and data and have observed an increasing number of COVID cases in California and around the world. While this increase is concerning, nowhere in the world do COVID outbreaks trace back to theme parks. And we can provide a safe alternative to family celebrations and backyard events – the specific types of occasions that are becoming more prevalent.

Meanwhile, there are real people suffering from economic instability, worried about putting food on the table for their families. The Newsom administration’s Level 4 designation means that park workers will continue to suffer even when we reach the moderate level (level 3) and many other sectors of the economy will be allowed to reopen. Parks are set to responsibly reopen at Level 3 with significant changes that protect the health and safety of employees and guests.
