As news about Disneyland Resort and its Cast Members emerges, we’re starting to get an overview of the impacts caused by its extended shutdown, including holidays and massive layoffs.
According to OC Register, more than 11,500 Disneyland and Disney California Adventure cast members will be fired. 8,724 of these layoffs include employees of the Disneyland union. The WARN Act notices announcing the layoffs were filed on October 29 and will go into effect on December 31. Disneyland had already announced the layoff of nearly 3,000 non-union employees on September 29.
The number of fired cast members continues to rise, as last week an additional 4,000 layoffs were revealed in a file with Disney’s SEC, bringing the total to 32,000 in the National Parks Division, Disney experiences and products. At Walt Disney World, 18,000 cast members have been laid off so far.
Due to current guidelines to reopen COVID-19 in California, it is believed that Disneyland Resort and its theme parks may remain closed until 2021.
The Walt Disney Company reinstated its senior management salaries at the end of August, when thousands of cast members were still on leave.
