Disneyland theme parks won’t be reopening anytime soon, but slowly things at the resort are opening up. This time it’s Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel, which opens on December 6.
But like everything else in 2020, there’s a catch: the hotel only takes bookings from guests who are members of the Disney Vacation Club, the timeshare-style membership where people buy a certain number of points that they use it every year to reserve rooms at Disney Properties all over, from Hawaii to Orlando. The Orange County registry reports that none of the Disneyland hotels are open to non-Vacation Club guests until December 31.
The early opening of hotels to Disney Vacation Club members has been part of the gradual reopening of Walt Disney World since June. Some hotels are still not fully open, such as Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort on the Seven Seas Lagoon across from Magic Kingdom. Only Disney Vacation Club rooms are open in the resort, but pools and some restaurants are open to guests as if the hotel were operating normally.
This new opening will come just after the reopening of Buena Vista Street by Disneyland, in Disney’s California Adventure, on November 19. The Hollywood area of the park will only offer shopping and dining, but it’s the first small theme park to open at Disney. Given Downtown Disney’s enthusiasm for the expansion, it’s likely to be an immediate success.
