The DMX family have opened up about the rapper’s condition after he was hospitalized and fell into a coma over the weekend.
The family of the 50-year-old rapper released a brief statement about his condition while announcing that a prayer vigil will be held on Monday outside New York Hospital where he remains on life support after suffering a heart attack.
“On Friday evening, April 2, 2021, our brother, son, father and DMX colleague, birth name Earl Simmons, was admitted to the White Plains (NY) hospital with serious health issues.” the family said through a reporter. “We ask that you please keep Earl / DMX and us in your thoughts, wishes and prayers, and respect our privacy in the face of these challenges.”
Another statement released on Sunday afternoon said the rapper remained in a coma and was on a ventilator.

Longtime Simmons lawyer Murray Richman said the rapper was admitted to the intensive care unit at White Plains Hospital after suffering cardiac arrest. Richman said he couldn’t confirm reports that DMX, 50, overdosed on drugs and wasn’t sure what caused the heart attack.
“She is truly an amazing person,” Richman told The New York Times. “He walked into a room, he lit the room. He couldn’t help but make you feel good in his presence.
In a separate interview with New York PIX11 NewsRichman noted that he was “worried” about the rapper’s current condition.

Former DMX director Nakia Walker told Buzzfeed News the musician is in a “vegetative state” and suffers from “lung and brain failure”.
Representatives for DMX did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.

Sources initially reported to TMZ that DMX suffered a heart attack as a result of a drug overdose. However, this has not yet been confirmed. Rapper “Party Up (Up in Here)” is known to have struggled with drug addiction in the past. The report says he last completed rehab in 2019 after serving a one-year prison sentence for tax evasion. At the time, the rapper claimed that the stay in rehab was not the result of a relapse but rather a preventive measure.
Stars Missy Elliot and Viola Davis were among the first celebrities to respond to the news on social media.

Davis also tweeted that she was “praying for DMX.”
