The Democratic National Committee on Thursday nominated the 20 presidential candidates who qualified to perform on stage later this month during the first main debate of the 2020 campaign.
They are:
- Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado
- Former Vice President Joe Biden *

- Pete Buttigieg *, Mayor of South Bend, Indiana
- The former Housing Secretary, Julián Castro *
- Bill de Blasio, Mayor of New York City
- Former Maryland representative John Delaney
- Tulsi Gabbard from Hawaii *
- Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York *
- Senator Kamala Harris of California *
- Former Colorado governor John Hickenlooper
- Govt. Jay Inslee from Washington *
- Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota *
- Former Beto representative O 'Rourke of Texas *
- Representative Tim Ryan from Ohio
- Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont *
- Eric Swalwell, representative of California
- Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts *
- Author Marianne Williamson *
- Entrepreneur Andrew Yang *
The DNC, which sanctions the debate, has defined two ways for candidates to qualify: fundraising and survey. To run, candidates had to have at least 1% support in three eligible polling stations or provide evidence of at least 65,000 unique donors, with at least 200 different donors in at least 20 states. .
Candidates marked with an asterisk are qualified by both polls and local fundraisers, said the DNC. Others qualified only by survey.
Those who have not reached the threshold of the first debate include: Montana Governor Steve Bullock; former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel; Florida Mayor Wayne Messam, Miramar; and Seth Moulton's representative from Massachusetts.
The two-night debate, hosted by NBC News, MSNBC and Telemundo, will be held June 26-27 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Miami. The event will be broadcast live on all three networks starting at 9pm. at 11 pm ET both nights.
Ten candidates at a time will appear on stage, but the composition of each evening has not been determined, nor the position of the candidates. Both parties will have the same format, had previously announced NBC News. This is the first of the 12 main debates planned by the DNC.
Lester Holt, Savannah Guthrie, Chuck Todd, Rachel Maddow and José Diaz-Balart will lead the debate, NBC announced on Tuesday.
The debate will also be broadcast online for free on NBC News digital platforms, including NBCNews.com, MSNBC.com, the NBC News mobile application and OTT applications, in addition to Telemundo's digital platforms.
