The Democratic National Committee (DNC) War Room on Saturday released a new video slamming House Republicans for voting against a massive $ 1.9 trillion package aimed at providing financial aid to Americans amid the pandemic.
The video, that the DNC posted on twitter Saturday afternoon, includes media coverage of House Democrats pass the stimulus package in an early morning vote 219-212.
Two democrats – Representatives Jared Golden (Maine) and Kurt schraderWalter (Kurt) Kurt Schrader Home Democrats pass .9T COVID-19 relief bill with minimum wage hike House to vote tight on COVID-19 relief package Democrats scramble to save the minimum wage increase PLUS (Ore.) – joined with all Republicans in voting against the bill.
The DNC video shows that the package, dubbed the “US bailout,” includes funding for the distribution of the coronavirus vaccine, the reopening of schools and rental aid.
The package also includes an additional $ 400 in weekly unemployment benefits, as well as a one-time stimulus payment of up to $ 1,400 for individuals or $ 2,800 for married couples.
The video then cuts media coverage of the bill on MSNBC, which has highlighted national polls indicating that a majority of Americans support the relief bill modeled on President Biden’s proposal.
A Morning Consult / Politico Poll conducted last week found that 76 percent of registered voters supported the stimulus package, with 52 percent saying they “strongly” supported it.

In a CNN segment included in the DNC video, correspondent Abby Phillip said, “Republicans weren’t bothered enough to come forward on this issue.”
“You might disagree with the details of the bill, but the idea that relief from COVID is not something that is of paramount importance, I think everyone can agree there- on it, ”she added.
In a statement shared with The Hill, DNC War Room spokesperson Daniel Wessel said: “Democrats, Republicans and Independents across the country have made it clear that they support President Biden’s US bailout.
“Yet last night, instead of joining Democrats in pushing through the much-needed stimulus package to bring thousands of dollars in relief to those who need it most, Republicans voted to leave millions of families dry, ”he added.
Republicans ahead of Saturday’s vote expressed particular opposition to part of the bill aimed at raising the federal minimum wage of $ 7.25 an hour now to $ 15.
While the A parliamentarian of the Senate ruled Thursday that the increase in the minimum wage would not comply with the fiscal rules required to pass bills as part of the reconciliation process, House Democrats chose to keep the minimum wage provision in the bill as a demonstration of support for the highest progressive priority.
The The package is now headed to the Senate, where Democrats will likely amend it next week before sending it back to the House for approval.
Democrats hope to finalize the bill before UI benefits expire on March 14.
