LeBron James slyly told NBA fans how he lured Montrezl Harrell to the Clippers’ Lakers, their Crosstown rivals.

The signing of Montrezl Harrell except their mid-level exception sent shockwaves through the NBA. The big man was arguably the most coveted free agent around, save for Anthony Davis, who is set to re-sign with the Lakers. Many believe that Harrell took a huge amount of money to hunt the ring.

Reigning sixth man of the year, Harrell was compelling in the 2019-20 regular season. He averages 18.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.

How LeBron James convinced Montrezl Harrell to sign with the Lakers

Harrell is a player that LeBron received a lot of praise even during his tenure with the Clippers. As they say, the game recognizes the game.

With discussions of dissent in the Clippers’ locker room after the season, the Lakers saw their chance. In LeBron’s words:

“Trezz was a neighbor next door. We knocked on his door and said, ‘… Do you like what’s going on here?’

Despite breezing through the playoffs with ease, Rob Pelinka refused to rest on the team’s laurels. His off-season efforts paid tons of dividends. Danny Green, Rajon Rondo, JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard have been replaced by Dennis Schroder, Wesley Matthews, Montrezl Harrell and Marc Gasol.

The team is currently even better than it was at the start of 2019-2020. Given how LeBron still looks so good, the Lakers will now be prohibitive favorites to repeat.

Harrell will make his first appearance for the Purple and Gold squad against his former team on December 11 – the Lakers’ first preseason game. After another face-off with them on the 13th, they will travel to Phoenix to face the Suns on the 16th and 18th.
