Marshall’s coach Doc Holliday is out after 11 seasons at school.
Holliday tweeted on Monday that university president Jerry Gilbert had informed him that the school would not extend his contract, which was due to expire at the end of June. He went 85-54 to Marshall (55-30 in league) with a Conference USA title in 2014 and three division championships. Last season, he won the American Conference Coach of the Year award for the second time.
“As Marshall’s head football coach I have always tried to build and quit the program better than I have found,” Holliday wrote on Twitter. “The program and the players are the most important thing, more important than any coach or staff member who has had the privilege of being at Huntington. I am proud to leave the program in a great place.”

Marshall started the 2020 season 7-0 and moved up to No.15 in the AP poll before dropping his last three games, including the Conference USA Championship at UAB and the Camellia Bowl in Buffalo.
Holliday, 63, led Marshall to eight bowl appearances – and a 33-10 rating between 2013 and 2015. A former West Virginia linebacker, he was an assistant to the WVU for most of his career before moving on. stop at NC State and Florida. He landed the Marshall job after the 2009 season.
