“We are very excited. This is what we see as a solution, as our ‘way out’ of this pandemic, ”said Dr Connie Price, Chief Medical Officer of Denver Health.

Brian Maass of CBS4 confirmed the news with Dr Price shortly after getting a newsletter sent to employees this week. The vaccine is expected to be the Pfizer vaccine, which is still pending FDA approval but is expected to pass. Once that happens, deployment should be quick. It could arrive as early as mid-December.

“The first is our healthcare workers, so there is a phase one that includes healthcare workers, that includes those who are in long-term care facilities and those most at risk,” he said. -she explains.

There will be a priority system in place.

“If you are not in the first priority group, don’t worry, you will be getting a vaccine soon,” she said.

The vaccine will require two scheduled visits, three weeks apart.

“If you received the Pfizer vaccine for your first dose, we need to make sure that we got you the Pfizer vaccine for your second dose,” she says.

And Dr. Price wants to set expectations.

“When some people get the flu shot, sometimes they feel pain in their arm, sometimes they feel a little sick,” she warned.

Denver Health expects to handle thousands of vaccines and that means they also plan to make sure they have enough storage.

“It needs a special freezer that can go down to -80 temperatures,” she added.

Once widely available, Dr Price also said, those who have had the virus in the past may also want to be vaccinated.

“It’s because we don’t have a full understanding of COVID-19, if this previous infection allows you to have sustained immunity,” she said.
