A week before the former National Rifle Association president, Oliver North, does not declare his candidacy for not being re-elected after an unsuccessful attempt to oust Wayne LaPierre, president and CEO, he warned the group that extraordinary legal fees threatened the future of the NRA.
A series of documents posted anonymously online and verified by both The Daily Beast and The Wall Street Journal show the internal machinations of a group plagued by serious financial problems for $ 24 million.
In a letter to Richard Childress, senior NRA and national authority official, to the NRA authorities last month, North said he was "deeply concerned by the extraordinary legal costs incurred by the NRA" Bill Brewer's lawyer.
"The amount seems to be about $ 24 million over a 13-month period," said the nine-page letter, which was viewed by HuffPost. North said the shooter group burned nearly $ 100,000 a day, "seven days a week, every month," by paying the law firm.

They included a trip to Italy and Budapest in 2014, where the listed expenses included $ 6,500 for accommodation at the Four Seasons Hotel; $ 2,400 for a stay at the luxurious Castadiva Resort on Lake Como in Italy; $ 17,550 for "Air Charter" between Budapest and the Italian city of Brescia; and almost $ 18,300 for a car and its driver in both countries.
Fees of $ 1,096 were also charged for "Frankfurt Airport Assistance".
In a statement to The Daily Beast, NRA 's new president, Carolyn Meadows, downplayed the importance of the money problems and said it was "pathetic" to leave somebody behind. to flee the documents.
"This is outdated information, which is recycled by those who have personal agendas," she said in a statement released to the publication. "In any case, the entire board is fully aware of these issues. We have full confidence in Wayne LaPierre and his work for the NRA and its members.
