Some vehicles have lasting appeal.

Dodge and Porsche topped the Mass Market and Premium brand categories of the 2021 JD Power Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) study, marking their second consecutive victory since the categories split last year. The two are tied with a score of 882, while Dodge’s sister brand, owned by Stellantis, Ram also repeated in second place on the mass market list with a score of 881.

Contrary to JD Power Initial Quality Study (IQS), which tracks the number of problems owners have with their vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership, the APEAL study classifies vehicles based on “design, performance, safety, usability, comfort, perceived quality and other factors ”.

Porsche also won the overall standings in 2019, while Ram was the highest ranked mass market brand on this combined list ahead of Dodge.

Tesla is the study’s wild card, however, as he again received the highest score at 893, but did not officially participate in the study, meaning the data used was collected in just 35 States.
