Dodger Stadium to stop COVID-19 testing and move to vaccination site

LOS ANGELES (KABC) – Dodger Stadium, the country’s largest COVID-19 testing site, will stop testing for the virus and move to a massive vaccination site, the city said on Sunday.

Testing operations at the stadium will end on Monday, the city said. The site will be converted to vaccination by the end of the week, reaching the 12,000 scheduled vaccinations per day once it is fully operational.

“From the start of this pandemic, Dodger Stadium has been the home base for our testing infrastructure, a vital part of our efforts to track the spread of COVID-19, try to forestall epidemics and save lives,” Mayor Eric Garcetti said. . “Vaccines are the surest way to beat this virus and to lead the way for a cure, so the city, county and our entire team are putting our best resources on the ground to get Angelenos vaccinated so quickly, safely and efficiently as possible. “

City officials have acknowledged that closing the site would reduce the overall testing capacity available in the region – but triple vaccine distribution. They noted that the city continues to operate eight permanent and six mobile sites, and that testing will be extended to some of these existing sites.

The city opened Dodger Stadium for COVID-19 testing in May 2020 and since then more than a million tests have been administered there.
