On Tuesday night, the Dodgers sneaked onto the hot MLB stove, announcing the re-signing of reliever Blake Treinen to a 2-year contract. The move continued a slew of nifty additions to the LA reliever box for 2021, including former All-Star rapper Corey Knebel, among others.
The Dodger Box was one of baseball’s best in 2020, leading the National League with a 2.74 ERA. Of course, Treinen was a key member of that nucleus of succession anchored by Kenley Jansen, closer for a long time. With a powerful offensive offense, the Dodgers lead baseball in victories en route to a World Series title last season.
Offering the opportunity to join the favorites of the 2021 World Series, Blake Treinen jumped.

The Dodgers have been particularly quiet this offseason, apparently in control of their own narrative in terms of rumors. As winter wore on, it looked like the union between Los Angeles and Treinen would be over. However, the two sides were working together for a longer future.
Yeah, obviously in the back of my mind they’ve known me for last year. We were able to work on things and come to a better point to be even better this year.

While the reliever admits that other, perhaps more lucrative, opportunities were available in the open market, LA was the place he wanted to be at least for the next few seasons.
Treinen joins Jansen, Knebel, Joe Kelly, Brusdar Graterol, Dylan Floro, along with minor league signers Jimmy Nelson and Brandon Morrow as right-handed options out of the Dodgers’ box as they look to defend their title in 2021.
