The Dodgers traded right-hander Josh Sborz to Texas Rangers for a minor league pitcher.
Sborz, 27, was the University of Virginia Dodgers’ second-round pick in 2015. He has briefly made the majors in each of the past two seasons, going 0-1 with a 6.08 ERA in 11 appearances in relief.
Sborz was nominated for an assignment last week when the Dodgers had to clear a spot for starting pitcher Trevor Bauer.
In exchange for Sborz, the Rangers will send 19-year-old Venezuelan Dodgers right-hander Jhan Zambrano. Zambrano signed with Rangers at the age of 16 in July 2018 and made his professional Dominican Summer League debut in 2019. He went 5-2 with a 2.55 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 60 rounds in 12 matches (11 starts).
Meanwhile, the Dodgers have also signed cornerback Matt Davidson. Davidson, 29, was the Arizona Diamondbacks’ first-round pick in 2009. He hit .223 in parts of five seasons with the Diamondbacks, Chicago White Sox and Cincinnati Reds. He had two 20-homer seasons with the White Sox – 26 in 2017 and 20 in 2018. Davidson received a non-aligned invite to spring training.
The Dodgers pitchers and catchers show up for spring practice Wednesday with the first practice Thursday. The first training session for the full team will take place next Tuesday.
