Google's Phil Harrison says if Stadia is supposed to be part of the current or next-generation consoles race.

As we learned during the Google Stadia revelation earlier this week, Google's new gaming platform is not a gaming console, but rather a streaming service. Despite that, as a generation of consoles comes to an end and we look to the next PlayStation and Xbox, does Google consider that its new platform is competing with them?

I've talked to Google's Phil Harrison about this, wondering if Google will launch Stadia this year, when most speculation makes us believe that next-generation consoles will come out, which means that Google considers Stadia a direct competitor. More than anything, Google seems more concerned by the fact that Stadia creates "a greater opportunity" for the wider sector than trying to supplant other platforms.

"I do not believe that Stadia can win, but that someone has to lose," he said. "I think that to grow this industry and what we love a lot, that is, playing games, if Google does it right, we can offer a greater opportunity to all players in the gaming sector. IIm is committed to doing that. "

Harrison is well aware of the history of the game. Of course, he has already been a leader of several companies, including Microsoft and Sony. But for him, rather than trying to "beat" the consoles in a war, he is working to ensure that Google's vision for the future of the game materializes quickly.

"We would not be here if it had not been for Nintendo and Sony and [Microsoft] and Sega and Atari and name your other console, "he said.

We are part of a sector, but we have a strong vision of the future. And we want to realize this vision of the future and offer enormous opportunities to even more people. "

Google's eagerness to materialize this vision of the future has led to the announcement of an exit window for Stadia for 2019, with Harrison reiterating the promise made earlier this week of a Stadia showcase consumer-centric this summer.

But while waiting for more information on the prize, the games and much more from Stadia, do not miss reading more of our interview with Phil Harrison:

We have also been introduced to both the Google Stadia controller and playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey on Google Stadia itself.
