We are officially two episodes in the last season of Game of thrones and the biggest revelations relate to the true lineage of Jon Snow (Kit Harington). Jon finally learned that he was a Targaryen in the first installment of Season 8, while Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) became familiar with the second episode.
Fans have known for a long time that Jon's parents are Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, making Aegon Targaryen. The revelation made Jon the legitimate heir to the Iron Throne, followed by Daenerys, who did not announce the news very well. We still do not know what Daenerys thinks of Jon's claim, but what are the chances that he really wants to become king and lead Westeros?
Jon can not prove he's really a Targaryen
For starters, Jon will have trouble proving that Rheagar and Lyanna are his real parents. We all know that Bran and Sam are telling the truth, but the characters in the series will probably need some hard evidence. Even Daenerys seemed skeptical about it when Jon first talked to her about it and she trusted Jon with all her heart.
According to Forbes,
Sam has a criminal record that proves that Jon's parents tied the knot in a secret
ceremony, but there is no mention of a baby. The only other source of information
is Bran, who attended the birth thanks to his abilities to travel in time.
Without something like a DNA test, Jon does not really
no practical way to prove that he has a claim other than the words of a better
friend and his own brother. If things go wrong, it could be important
if Jon and Daenerys come out alive.
Does Jon want to sit on the iron throne?
The vast majority of characters on Game of thrones would like to govern Westeros. After all, the show
is not called Game of thrones for nothing.
But when it comes to Jon, he is the only character who fled
positions of power. He even gave up everything to join Night Watch in
Season 1, only to climb the ladder and be named Lord
Commander.
After his death and resurrection, Jon finishes his watch and
directed to Winterfell to take over the family's stronghold. After successfully
defeat Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) at the Battle of the Bastards, the Lords
from the north crowned king of the north, a title that he voluntarily gave up to obtain
Daenerys at his side.
The situation is a little different as far as the iron throne is concerned, but there is no reason to think that Jon will not withdraw if he thinks Daenerys is a good leader.
Jon could abandon his claim for Daenerys
Between Jon's reluctance to seek power and his love for
Daenerys, there is a good chance that he will abandon his request and let it govern
Westeros. That's, of course, assuming that they both come out of Winterfell
living. The king of the night and his army of the undead have just arrived at Stark's
ancestral home, and we feel that the coming battle will take the life of
many of our favorite characters.
If the couple survives the Night King in a way, last week's episode had some foreshadowing that could tell us about Jon's intentions.
In one scene, Podrick begins to sing a song of the company
of Tyrion and Jaime Lannister, Davos Seaworth, Brienne of Tarth and Tormund
Giantsbane, called "Jenny's Song".
In the books, the song is a reference to Duncan Targaryen,
who gave up his right on the iron throne to marry Jenny of Oldstones. Jon could
very well follow Duncan, which could explain why the song was included in the
show in the first place.
Will Jon survive the coming battle?
The biggest question is whether or not
survives his fight with the king of the night. The bad part of comparing Jon's life
with Duncan Targaryen is that the latter died after giving up his right to
crowned. We can only hope that it does not happen to Jon or Daenerys and that both
do them in one piece.
