As a new episode of The Mandalorian fast approach, fans are still trying to fully capture everything that happened in the most recent episode, The jedi. On the one hand, this brought Rosario Dawson into the fold of Ahsoka Tano, representing the character’s live-action debut. Now, director Dave Filoni has revealed that the episode doesn’t necessarily take place after the Star Wars Rebels series finale, which has huge implications.
Warning: spoilers ahead for The Mandalorian Chapter 13, The jedi. In the episode. Ahsoka meets Baby Yoda, whose official name is Grogu, we just learned. Mando hopes she will train Grogu Force-style. Eventually, an agreement is made between Mando and Ahsoka. He must help him get much needed information from an enemy. We just found out that the information is the location of Grand Admiral Thrawn.
The last time we saw Ahsoka, chronologically speaking in the timeline, was the epilogue of the Star Wars Rebels final. She set off with Sabine Wren in search of Ezra, who had flown into space with Thrawn to an unknown place in the vastness of space. This scene took place after the events of Return of the Jedi. In the same way The Mandalorian. Dave Filoni, in a recent interview, warned fans shouldn’t be making assumptions about the timeline.
“It’s not necessarily chronological. I think what people won’t understand the most is that they want to go in a linear fashion, but as I learned as a kid, nothing in Star Wars don’t really work in a linear fashion. [Episodes] Four, five and six, then one, two and three. So, in the vein of this story, when you watch the Rebels epilogue, you don’t really know how much time has passed. So, it’s possible that the story I’m telling in The Mandalorian would take place before that. Possible. I say it is possible. “
So, essentially, there’s a chance that the final scene of Star Wars Rebels takes place after what we saw in The Mandalorian. This would mean that the events unfolding on the live-action series could, in theory, lead to the search for Thrawn and Ezra. Either way, Thrawn looks set to make a live-action appearance for the first time. It’s just a matter of when, in the overall timeline, it’s going to happen.
Rumors of a series of Rebels sequels have been raging for some time now. Not to mention a possible The Mandalorian spin off. The show certainly seems to be putting all the right pieces in place to make this happen. Fortunately, we still have a few episodes of season 2 left to hope for answers. No matter how it turns out, it looks like we’re finally going to get answers to one of the biggest lingering questions in the entire franchise.
