Dog the Bounty Hunter has dismissed a claim by a Twitter user that he used a Hawaiian-themed banner to point fugitive Brian Laundrie.
“Aloha Brian Laundrie – Dog,” reads the banner seen being pulled by an airplane in an image posted by the user – though it’s not clear if the photo was even real.
“This junction of the investigation into the murder of Gabby Petito sounds like an absolute feverish dream,” he said. @boutAWeekAhgo wrote.
“You have Dog the Bounty Hunter who stalked Brian Laundrie to a tropical island and is now taunting him by waving a banner around the island in the hopes of flushing him out,” he added.
The post received around 28,000 likes and 4,692 retweets on Friday morning.
Duane “Dog” Chapman, who inserted himself in the massive manhunt for Gabby Petito’s boyfriend last weekend, insists he didn’t use a banner to tout his research .
“Frankly, I would have liked to think about it, but it wasn’t our team,” the 68-year-old told Newsweek. “I would love to shake hands with whoever is behind the banner, I’ll tell you.”
The former reality TV personality got involved on Saturday after law enforcement had already searched for days for Laundrie, 23, near her parents’ home in Florida.
Laundrie had returned from a trip across the country with Petito, 22, on September 1 – without his longtime girlfriend. Petito was reported missing on September 11 and later found dead in Wyoming.
