The owner, a 41-year-old owner of a dog walking company and five dogs were killed in Long Beach, California, after the driver of a stolen pickup truck chased by police crashed against his vehicle, announced the authorities.

The suspect, Javier Olivarez, a Los Angeles resident, was arrested and faced charges for escaping an officer, DUI crime and manslaughter.

Police said the lawsuit began when the police saw the stolen van and tried to arrest Olivarez at a roadside check. Olivarez refused to stop, the police said.

Officers pursued him for a little over a mile before his vehicle crashed.

Bingaman was taken to a local hospital where she died. Four of the dogs that accompanied him died on the scene and two were taken to a local veterinary hospital, where one died and the other was seriously injured, police said.
