DOJ calls on Trump-era US lawyers to resign

The Justice Department will ask U.S. lawyers appointed by former President Donald Trump to resign, according to a senior department official.

The federal prosecutor overseeing the federal tax investigation involving Hunter Biden has, however, been asked to stay at work.

U.S. Attorney John Durham, who has been appointed special adviser to investigate the origins of the Trump-Russia inquiry, will also remain in office.

Durham is expected to resign from his other post as US attorney in Connecticut.

The process of transitioning American lawyers is common between jurisdictions.

It should be several weeks before the few dozen people appointed during Trump’s day leave and are replaced by candidates for President Joe Biden.

A number of US lawyers chosen by Trump have already left their posts.
