DOJ election fraud official resigns after Barr gives green light to election polls, report says

The Justice Department official who oversees allegations of electoral fraud is said to have left his post just hours after Attorney General William Barr gave the green light to federal prosecutors to investigate any “substantial allegation” of electoral irregularities. Richard Pilger, who works in the Public Integrity Section, told his colleagues in an email that he would be working on unsupervising bribery prosecutions in the future, The New York Times reports. “After familiarizing myself with the new policy and its ramifications… I unfortunately have to resign from my post as director of the Electoral Crimes Directorate,” he wrote in the email. Pilger resigned shortly after Barr issued a memo granting federal prosecutors permission to open investigations into certain allegations of voting irregularities – even before the results of the 2020 presidential election were certified. Barr’s memo states that “apparently credible allegations of irregularities” can be investigated, but “speculative, speculative, fanciful or far-fetched allegations should not be used as a basis for federal investigations.” The Federal Election Commission said there was “no evidence of fraud,” despite President Trump’s numerous claims to the contrary.
