For the first time, the Dollar Tree discount variety store chain will sell items that cost over $ 1.
The company announced in a press release that it will be adding products priced above $ 1 to all of its Dollar Tree Plus stores and some existing Dollar Tree stores.
There will be 500 Dollar Tree Plus stores by the end of 2021, the company said, and 5,000 locations by the end of 2024. These stores will carry an assortment of items priced at $ 1, $ 3 and $ 5.
Products priced over $ 1 will include crafts, sporting goods, home decor, clothing, and vacation and seasonal items.
There are over 160 Dollar Tree stores in New Jersey. It was not known how many of them will be carrying items priced over $ 1.
“For decades our customers have enjoyed the ‘thrill of the hunt’ for a dollar – and we remain committed to this basic proposition – but many tell us they also want a wider product assortment when they come to shop, ”said Michael Witynski, president and CEO of Dollar Tree.
“Our brand promise is that customers get great value for what they spend at Dollar Tree. We will continue to fiercely protect this promise, whatever the cost. “
Dollar Tree, which acquired Family Dollar in 2015, will also expand its combined stores, which share the Dollar Tree and Family Dollar brands. The company currently has 105 combo stores and plans to add 400 more in 2022.
The company operates more than 15,800 stores in the United States and Canada.
