As Dolly Parton blows out the candles on her birthday cake on Tuesday, she asks for a gift that cannot be purchased.
“This year my wish is a call for kindness,” Parton said captioned a return photo of herself, when she was 75. “We can’t just hope for a better day, we have to work for a better day. Love is too often buried in a world of pain and fear. We have to work to unearth it so that we can share it with our family, friends and neighbors. So today, January 19, let’s move on to the search for love.
Parton, whose message arrives as the country is politically divided and in the grip of a pandemic, has more than wished everyone good luck during a difficult time: she donated $ 1 million for the development of the Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine. She continued to run her Imagination Library, which promotes children’s literacy by providing books to children under 5.
The country music legend, who has generally kept his political comments on his songs, also spoke out in favor of the Black Lives Matter movement and explained the abandonment of the “Dixie” from the name of his dinner-attraction at the Medieval Times, Dolly Parton’s Stampede, because of its association with the Confederacy.

Although Parton has a lot to celebrate on her birthday, she has long joked that she refuses to grow old – and that she doesn’t have time for it anyway.
“I’m going to be the best I can be no matter what my age,” she told Oprah Winfrey Oprah’s conversation in November 2020. “And I bet I won’t look that different at 95 because I’m like the Gabor sisters. I will look like a cartoon. I’ll have makeup on. I will look as young as my plastic surgeons will allow me to. And it’s like all that makeup, lighting and stuff. But I think more than anything it’s about what comes from inside you.
