Dolly Parton praised Lil Nas X after finding out about her recent cover of her song, “Jolene”.

The 75-year-old country music icon took to Twitter on Wednesday night to share a sweet note with the 22-year-old artist after performing a cover of his single last week at the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge.

“I was so excited when someone told me that Lil Nas X made my song #Jolene. I had to find it and listen to it immediately… and that’s really good,” Parton tweeted. “Of course I love him anyway. I was surprised and I am honored and flattered. Hope he does both of us good. Thank you @LilNasX.”

Clearly flattered and a little baffled to have a scream from the women behind his latest blanket, Lil Nas X responded with a single: “HOLY SH–“.

While the duo’s back and forth on Twitter thrilled some of their mutual fans, Parton revealed to Elle in 2019 that she was invited to be a part of one of the remixes of Lil Nas’ hugely popular single X “Old. Town Road “but finally passed.

“I had the opportunity to be part of this [song]”she explained at the time.” But it had worked so well with so many people. I thought, ‘Well, I’m going to wait and do something later. No need to go down this same road from the old town. We have other roads to travel. ‘”

So although fans never got the remix of “Old Town Road” starring Parton and Megan Thee Stallion, the lead singer of “Montero” hoped for before, she’s clearly open to working with Lil Nas X in the future.

As for his recent cover of Jolene, People reports that the rapper revealed the cover came together at the last minute.
