Dolly Parton recalls heartwarming story of how her father secretly cleaned up her hometown statue

Dolly Parton just shared a healthy father-daughter story that is sure to warm the hearts of fans.

The nine-time Grammy-winning artist recently spoke about his education on the Apple Fitness + ‘Time to Walk’ experience, which premiered on Monday. On the episode “Time to Walk,” Parton shares songs and stories to accompany listeners on their walks in Apple’s latest effort to encourage physical activity among their users.

One particular story the singer shared was of her father, Robert Parton, reaction to news of a statue erected in honor of his famous daughter – and what he did in secret.

“I remember I was so proud of that statue… I thought to myself, ‘A statue of me in the courthouse courtyard? It’s usually reserved for presidents and people who have done really big things like that, “” Parton noted, according to People magazine.

She continued, “So I came home and said, ‘Daddy, did you know they are laying a statue of me… at the courthouse?’ Dad said, “Well, yeah, I heard about it. He said, “Now to your fans you might be some kind of idol. But to these pigeons you are just another addiction.” “

Parton later revealed that his father cleaned the statue at night with “a bucket of soapy water in the back of his van” – unbeknownst to anyone.

“It touched me so much,” Parton recalls. “I loved my dad and wanted him to be proud of him because I was proud of him.”

During the episode, Parton noted that she felt like she had [her] work ethic of [her] papa, “who was a sharecropper who ended up growing tobacco to support his family in difficult times.

The “Here You Come Again” singer recently celebrated her 75th birthday last Tuesday, but suffered tragedy two days later with the death of her brother, Randy Parton.

News of Randy’s passing comes just a few years after the death of their other brother Floyd Estel Parton in 2018.
