On Thursday, Dolly Parton called on lawmakers to remove a bill proposing to install a statue of herself on the grounds of the Tennessee State Capitol.
Tennessee State Representative Jeremy Faison responded to his request and told TMZ his wishes should be respected.
The 75-year-old country music legend posted a message on Twitter asking her home state to stop the bill, even though she is “honored and humiliated” by the gesture.
“I would like to thank the Tennessee legislature for their consideration of a bill to erect a statue of me on the Capitol grounds. I am honored and humbled by their intention, but I have asked the leaders of the legislature state to withdraw the bill from everything and everything, ”she said.

“Given everything that’s going on in the world, I don’t think putting myself on a pedestal is appropriate right now. I hope, however, that somewhere down the road in several years or maybe after my departure if you I still think I deserve it, then I’m sure I’ll be proud in our great State Capitol as a grateful Tennessean, ”Parton concluded.
In June, an online petition was filed suggesting that a Parton statue would replace those dedicated to Confederate officers.
“Tennessee is littered with statues commemorating Confederate officers,” the petition reads. “History shouldn’t be forgotten, but we don’t need to glorify those who do not deserve our praise. Instead, let’s pay homage to a true Tennessee hero, Dolly Parton.”

The petition cited his music and philanthropy as reasons for his potential recognition.
