Dolly Parton has sent an open letter to her fans on her 75th birthday. Partly personal reflection and inspiring challenge, Parton’s post, posted on the singer’s website, asks readers to be compassionate.

“My wish is for everyone to do something a little different today. Let’s call it a call for kindness. If you want to donate to your favorite cause, donate. If you want to call an old friend during those lonely times, call them. If it is safe for you to volunteer then raise your hand to do it, ”she wrote in part. “The choices are limitless.”

Parton also emphasized the importance of engagement in his letter. “I always encourage people to dream big, but I also take great care to follow through on the message of working hard. We can’t just hope for a better day, we have to work for a better day, ”she wrote. “Love is too often buried in a world of pain and fear. We have to work to unearth it so that we can share it with our family, friends and neighbors. So today, January 19, let’s start finding love. Love is more contagious than a virus, so let your best shine in a glorious light and others will be inspired by you.

Born January 19, 1946, in Sevier County, Tennessee, Parton wrote songs about her own hardscrabble upbringing. She has become a global icon, transcending country music to become an ambassador of positivity, compassion and acceptance. On her birthday, she says that she “chooses the quiet path so that I can stay close to those I love, count my blessings, and seriously think about what this New Year is going to bring.

Thanks to Parton’s generosity, it means hope: In April, the singer donated $ 1 million to Vanderbilt University in Nashville to help successfully develop a Covid-19 vaccine.
