Domani Jackson, # 5 rookie in 2022 class, signs up for USC

Five-star cornerback Domani Jackson announced his commitment to USC on Saturday, choosing Trojans over Arizona State, Clemson, Michigan and Ohio State.

Jackson is # 5 in the 2022 class and # 1 in California. He’s a 6-foot-1, 190-pound cornerback from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif., And gives USC the # 1 prospect in the state two consecutive recruiting rounds.

It might sound trite, but coach Clay Helton and his staff finished the 2020 cycle with the 54th-ranked recruiting class and just one ESPN 300 engagement in wide receiver Gary Bryant. California prospects were fleeing the state, including Bryce Young, the 2020 No.1-ranked double-threat quarterback who moved from USC to Alabama.

The Trojans staff, who added secondary coach Donte Williams in February 2020, have made a concerted effort to take back the west and keep local prospects at home.

Those efforts paid off in the 2021 cycle, with USC signing nine ESPN 300 rookies, including No. 1 in the state and five-star defensive end Korey Foreman.

The Trojans still have a chance to land ESPN 300 linebacker Raesjon Davis. If Davis chooses USC, that would give the school three top-four prospects in California.

Jackson’s commitment gives USC three ESPN Junior 300 commitments in 2022, alongside linebacker Niuafe Tuihalamaka (No.76 overall) and cornerback Fabian Ross (No.190).
