Santa Ana (Calif.) Junior defensive back Mater Dei Jackson tomorrow clerk at USC awhile ago.

Jackson, the No. 3 national player in the 247Sports Composite and No. 4 by 247Sports said the opportunity to build something special at USC was too much to pass up.

“I really think that with the USC class signed this year and the players that we could have in my class, we will have a team that can compete for a national championship,” said Jackson. “It’s always a dream to be able to play for a championship in your hometown and help the local school get back on track.

“I’m looking at the players who go to USC now, Korey (foreman), Kyron (Ware-Hudson), Ceyair (Wright) and my class if they’re going to be stacked. That was the main reason I wanted to m ‘hire early, I want to start building this class and help recruit other players and I’m excited to know who I think we’re going to get. “

Location also played a role for Jackson.

“I visited a few other places and it was always nice to be back home,” Jackson said. “A few weeks ago I was in Texas and while I was there I missed being home with my family and that’s when I knew that I was ready to make my decision.

“I knew it was going to be USC for a little while here and just didn’t see the need to waste anybody’s time. Now all schools can move on and recruit other players and I don’t have to worry about recruiting, all the calls and messages. It’s a great feeling and I’m really, really excited to be a Trojan horse. “

Jackson has always had a close relationship with USC DB coach Donte Williams as well as the rest of the Trojans coaching staff.

“Donte is my guy,” Jackson said. “I’m closer to him than any other coach. He’s been recruiting me for a long time and I’m really comfortable with him as a coach and as a person. He’s someone to whom i know i can talk about anything, not just soccer stuff.

“He’s a good coach too and I know he will develop me and help me achieve my goals. The ultimate dream for all of us is to play in the NFL and that’s definitely where I think it is. I graduate early when I am senior and my goal is to be an instant impact player from day one. “

Along with USC, Jackson’s finalists also included State of Arizona, Clemson, Michigan, State of Ohio and Oklahoma. The Buckeyes and Wolverines both had a strong buzz at different points in his recruiting and ASU has always been in the mix.

Ultimately, Jackson said USC just had too many advantages and he saw no reason to leave home.

“That’s what the coaches have been talking about and that’s what a lot of the players who signed up feel,” Jackson said. “The feeling, why leave home when USC has everything we could want here.”

“We can win a championship, put USC back on the map and grow to be in the NFL. USC is also a great brand, a great varsity school with great support and a tradition of alumni. ‘thought about it, the more I thought about it it makes sense so like I said this class will be very special, note it, we are going to do great things for sure. “

Jackson, who pledged on the 23rd to honor his parents’ 24th birthday, is a player with limitless potential. He has a 6-1 long frame, is a very physical player and has incredible straight-line speed. If he runs on track this year, it won’t shock him if he runs in the 10.5-100m range and was on track to do so in sophomore before spring sports closed last year. .

He is nowhere near reaching his full potential and can still take a big leap in his game as he improves technically. His high ranking right now is based more on projection than production, but he has a chance to develop into a real locked corner that could play on Sundays for as long as he wants.
