A libel law firm representing Dominion Voting Systems sent letters to conservative cable news stations Fox News, Newsmax and One America News warning them of their intention to prosecute false and extravagant allegations of electoral fraud made about of society on their airwaves.
Defamation attorney Tom Clare, of aggressive law firm Clare Locke, told The Daily Beast that he had sent legal letters to Newsmax, Fox and OAN on behalf of Dominion Voting Systems, anticipating the case to proceed. would end up in court.
“I think it’s fair to say that in January we’ll be pulling the trigger on several litigation. The damage they have caused has already been enormous, ”he said of networks spreading blatant lies about electoral fraud.
“The time for a retraction is not now, weeks ago. I’m sure a retraction doesn’t reverse the damage, but it’s the right thing regardless of the dispute, ”he added.
Representatives for Newsmax and OAN did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A Fox News spokesperson reported to the Daily Beast about an interview the network did with a Dominion representative who told presenter Eric Shawn that it was “physically impossible” to change voices.
The communication to networks that reinforce Trump follows similar letters sent to White House lawyer Pat Cipollone and President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani. Clare Locke has asked the White House and Giuliani to keep all documents related to Dominion, which has been at the center of Trump’s baseless conspiracies of widespread electoral fraud.
“What this business is going through in terms of threats to its business because of the damage to its reputation that no business should suffer,” Clare added.
“You have provable bogus claims that have been repeatedly dismissed by the courts without any corroborating evidence and massive damage has been demonstrated.”
On Tuesday, a Dominion leader filed his own lawsuit against Giuliani, former Trump campaign lawyer Sidney Powell, One America News, Newsmax and other right-wing media, accusing lawyers and conspiratorial networks of causing ” untold damage ”due to their“ rigged ”electoral demands. Dominion is not part of this costume.
Seeking damages as well as a public retraction from all parties, Dominion’s Director of Product Strategy and Security Eric Coomer says his lawsuit is “an effort to dispel as much of the damage as possible. to me, my family, my life and my livelihood. following the many false public statements that I was somehow responsible for ‘rigging’ the 2020 presidential election. “
Dominion isn’t the only voting machine company threatening legal action against the conservative media for breathing new life into the baseless claims by Powell and Giuliani that millions of votes were “stolen” from Trump because of of an infamous international conspiracy involving corrupt voting software.
Smartmatic, who has been accused of colluding with long-dead dictator Hugo Chavez and liberal philanthropist George Soros, has addressed letters to Fox News, Newsmax and OAN demanding a complete retraction of statements made on their airwaves. Fox and Newsmax would end up running several segments of their programs to debunk the false election statements made about the company.
One America News, meanwhile, declined to release any corrections or clarifications and continued to broadcast segments and reports alleging that the two voting system companies potentially reversed the votes in favor of President-elect Joe Biden.
