Donald Trump is considering forgiving his disgraced former national security adviser Michael Flynn before stepping down, according to several media.
Flynn will be part of a series of pardons Trump plans to grant before his term ends, according to multiple sources, according to Axios and the New York Times.
Flynn admitted to lying to the FBI about his contacts with the former Russian Ambassador to the United States and became a cooperating witness in Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and the Trump campaign links with Moscow.
Flynn was the only White House official indicted in Mueller’s investigation.
It has become a famous cause among the far right, with many of Trump’s most ardent supporters claiming the former national security adviser was a victim of the “deep state.”
Trump and the Justice Department’s efforts to dismiss the criminal case against Flynn have mired in lengthy legal battles in the courts.
