Former President Donald Trump has claimed he did more for religion than anyone while he was president.
“No one has done more for Christianity or for evangelicals or for religion itself than I have,” Trump said in an interview with FlashPoint on The Victory Channel, a Christian television channel.
He referred to “getting rid of the Johnson Amendment” which he said was a “very bad thing”.
The Johnson Amendment is a provision in the U.S. tax code that prohibits nonprofits from supporting or opposing political candidates, or lose their tax-exempt status.
In 2017, Trump signed an executive order to relax the rules, arguing that it restricted the church’s free speech rights. Some experts said the order was mostly symbolic.
Trump also mentioned the Mexico City policy, which blocks federal funding for foreign nongovernmental organizations that make abortion recommendations or discuss abortion as an option.
The policy which was first introduced in 1973 and has since been regularly repealed by Democratic presidents and reinstated by Republicans.
To train, Trump re-established politics during his tenure, and President Joe Biden repealed it in January.
In the FlashPoint interview, Trump also claimed that Biden and the Democrats had done “destructive” things to religion.
“I said Biden was going to be bad, he turned out to be a lot worse than anyone thought. You talk about abortion, you talk about all things,” Trump said.
“He’s terrible about these matters, and he lied. And just like they cheated on the election, the election was rigged, just like it happened, they also cheated a lot on what they think. really organized religion and religion and frankly Christianity. “
It’s not clear what Trump meant when he said the Biden administration deceived organized religion.
He also mentioned widely refuted claims that the 2020 election was fraudulent.
Trump went on to say that he had done more for Israel than anyone else and complained that he did not receive enough credit for it from the Jewish people.
“Besides, no one has done as much for Israel as I have, as you know. With Jerusalem and frankly ending the Iranian nuclear deal which is a disaster and all the other things I have done for Israel,” Trump said.
“And by the way, in the evangelical community, I mean I get, I probably get more credit for it than with the Jewish people.”
“Nobody did what I did and I am very happy to do it.”
Trump has complained in the past about Catholics and Jews who did not vote for him, despite everything he claimed to have done for their respective communities.
