“The accused wields a degree of power and control over political discourse in this country that is immeasurable, historically unprecedented and deeply dangerous for opening a democratic debate,” Trump’s lawyers write of Twitter.
Trump’s lawyers allege Democrats in Congress and the Biden administration pressured the social media company to keep Trump’s account banned, following his comments on unfounded election fraud and in a bid to combat disinformation of Covid-19.
Trump sued Twitter and its CEO Jack Dorsey in July. Trump’s team argued that his speech was unfairly censored.
A few months ago, Trump’s team told the court they would seek an injunction against Twitter for the immediate reactivation of their account. But lawyers haven’t filed a case so far, which may prompt Miami Federal Court Judge Robert Scola, Jr. to act faster.
Twitter did not formally respond to court.
