A new poll might not be in favor of a dismissal of President Trump, but that does not mean that US voters are not worried. Justin Kircher de Veuer has history.

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump was to veto a congressional resolution rescinding his national emergency declaration on the US border with Mexico, exercising power for the first time under his presidency to preserve a top priority.

Trump's veto came a day after a dozen Republican senators joined all Democrats in rebuking the president's emergency declaration in February, freeing up more than $ 6 billion for wall, long promised, along the southwestern border.

Democrats accused Trump of having created a crisis to reinforce the wall, pointing out that the fears of people attempting to enter the United States illegally were at unprecedented levels. Republican critics, meanwhile, are worried. The urgency of Trump is an attempt to bypass the power of Congress by power.

But Trump said that he had run in 2016 on the promise to build a border wall (although he also repeatedly promised that Mexico would pay for it). The White House said it thought more barriers would stem the flow of migrants and illicit drugs. Others have argued that most illicit drugs arrive through entry points.

The White House has scheduled an event for 15:30. HAE in the oval office. White House press officer Hogan Gidley said Trump would veto the resolution at the event.

Although there was bipartisan support for blocking Trump's urgency, the opposition remained below the two-thirds majority that would be needed to override a presidential veto. Democrats have promised to bring the issue back to the House and Senate in six months – what they are allowed to do under the law – forcing the Republicans to re-vote on the issue.

The border emergency is the latest hot spot of a divided government in Washington after Democrats claimed control of the House in midterm elections last year. President Barack Obama issued its first veto after less than a year in power to block an expired spending bill by the adoption by Congress of a measure corresponding to a full year on the same day.

President George W. Bush did not issue a single veto during his first term. When Democrats took control of Congress in 2007, Bush issued 142 veto threats and corrected 11 of them. Obama and Bush issued a dozen vetoes each.

Trump's decision to grant the veto was not a surprise: the White House has officially threatened to do so before the resolution is approved by the House. Shortly after the Senate vote on Thursday, Trump posted an unusually short note on Twitter.

"VETO!" was all he was reading.
