9News reported that on June 11, Rylee Stuart posted a video on TikTok showing a swollen chip on his three points. She had discovered it while eating a packet of snacks.
The video went viral and garnered over four million views.
The text of the video reads, “I found a whiff of Dorito. Does this have any value or should I just eat? Stuart then asked her followers what she should do.
TikTokers online encouraged her to put the Doritos chip up for sale on eBay and she did exactly that.
A few users even joked, “Put it in a museum.”
Rylee put the chip on sale for $ 0.99 – which read “a one-of-a-kind bloated dorito” – and it didn’t take long for her to start receiving offers of up to $ 100,000. , 9News reported.
The list was eventually taken down, but after the story got so much attention, Doritos offered Stuart $ 20,000.
“We were so impressed with Rylee’s daring and entrepreneurial spirit, so we wanted to make sure the Stuart family was recognized for their creativity and love for Doritos,” said Vanita Pandey, Director of Marketing at Doritos at 9News.
“It has been a whirlwind of a few days for Rylee and his family and we have loved following his story,” she added.
Rylee told the outlet that she intended to eat the chip, but then changed her mind. “I was about to eat it, and thought I’d better save it for later.”
“Dad says since he bought the package it’s his chip. But I ate the package and found it, so I think it’s mine,” she added. .
