Dozens of people show up at Ford Field without an appointment, hoping for a vaccine

STRAIT – Numerous no-shows at the Ford Field mass vaccination site on Thursday prompted officials to call for anyone who can get to the site before 6 p.m. to be vaccinated.

Dozens of people showed up on Friday hoping the same would happen.

“I thought it was worth it and if it doesn’t work, that’s okay,” said Rob Trexler.

Trexler and his wife left New Hudson to wait and see, but not everyone was as laid back as he was.

When police and Ford Field staff told the crowd there were no leftovers, some gave officers a hard time and were unwilling to leave, which can be a problem as those who do the walk-in line can slow down the process for people with appointments. .

People are advised to wait in their car or on the side and not stand in line if someone wants to check for additional vaccines due to no show.

With the increase in COVID-19 cases, the Detroit Institute of Arts will remain closed to the public until April 2.

Additionally, the St. Clair County Health Department sent out a newsletter, recommending people work from home if possible, as well as strict mitigation strategies for workers who cannot.
