As the calendar moves to December, we can accept the fact that 2020 is almost over. The year of the coronavirus pandemic cannot end soon enough.
With several potential vaccines in the works, 2021 is shaping up to be a year in which things are slowly returning to normal. This includes the world of sports, which has seen most of the games played this year without fans in the stands. This makes this update from Dr Anthony Fauci so promising.
Fauci is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the country’s leading immunologist. In a telephone interview Monday with Yahoo Sports, Fauci said that ‘the unlimited capacity in sports stadiums will be among’ the last thing[s] which you are going to see “as the United States pushes towards the end of the pandemic in 2021.” But it will happen.
“We are going to vaccinate the people with the highest priority [from] from the end of December to January, February, March, ”Fauci said. “By the time you reach out to the general public, the people who will go to the basketball games, who have no underlying conditions, it will start at the end of April, May, June. So it will probably be fine in the late summer before you can really feel comfortable. [with full sports stadiums] – if a lot of people get vaccinated. I don’t think we will be this normal in July. I think it would probably be at the end of the summer.
Yahoo Sports asked Fauci about the fans in the stands for the 2021 NFL season starting in September, to which he said, “Oh, it’s possible. I think that it is possible.
According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 13 million people in the United States have contracted the coronavirus, with more than 268,000 American deaths as a result of COVID-19.
