Dr. Mario World is a classic puzzle game, with the pros and cons of mobile gaming

Nintendo's mobile games range from the simplified platform of Super Mario Run at the light gacha strategy Hero of the fire emblem. It is only natural that society gets into thinking games. At least initially, their upcoming game Dr. Mario World It's a fun little treat, but comes with some of the usual caveats and mobile game deals.

I played a short session of Dr. Mario World recently in New York, in a large conference room with some Nintendo representatives. The mobile game takes a familiar format and adds some jokers, like hero powers and recruitable characters. These changes make a familiar puzzle game format a bit more complex than dropping puzzle pieces. Most work, some make me wish that mobile games upset their structures.

The goal of Dr. Mario games is to eliminate each stage of virus. These nasty germs clutter the screen and come in three colors: red, yellow and blue. The players drop pills of the same color on the sprouts, in order to match three colors in a row to eliminate one of the germs. You can rotate the pills like Tetris pieces, dragging them to the desired position to match colors and trap viruses.

In Dr. Mario Worldeach step acts as a specific puzzle and you only have a limited amount of pills to solve them. These steps are selected on a map of the universe such as any Mario game, and many have obvious solutions and gadgets to exploit. For example, an early stage can teach you the importance of letting half of a pill rest on an empty space so that when the other half is destroyed, it disappears to catch other viruses. By progressing, Dr. Mario World adds complications such as bombs that explode in many viruses if you accidentally trigger them. The first steps I played were solid to teach the basics. The highest levels of Dr. Mario World It turned out almost too difficult to tackle after years without playing the series.

To help players manage each step, you can play with different doctors in addition to Mario. The list includes Dr. Peach and Dr. Bowser. Each of these characters has special abilities. For example, Mario's ability clears the lowest row of the screen while Dr. Bowser clears a random row. Doctors may also have assistants like a goomba or shy boyfriend, who offer additional benefits. Diamonds can also be used to keep playing if you lack stamina, a resource that, like many games for mobile devices, runs out every time you play on a stage. Diamonds also allow players to purchase items that facilitate the steps, such as additional pills. This is what you expect from a mobile game, but associated with the fact that Dr. Mario World requires an internet connection to play. It's frustrating not being able to sit down to play some riddles or forget the aspects of mobile gaming.

I could not play Dr. Mario WorldThe multiplayer mode allows you to face strangers and friends. These matches are very similar to the competitive game mode as a classic Dr. Mario as opposed to games, where the elimination of viruses allows players to fill the screens of their opponents with junk food and other viruses. Dynamics is influenced by the different doctor characters, who each have offensive and defensive multiplayer statistics that alter the amount of junk mail they can send or block. That's what interests me the most Dr. Mario World, even without playing. Nintendo Dragalia lost managed to take the cooperative four-legged dungeon and make a fantastic experience. Battle online in Dr. Mario World could be just as fun, as long as the game can form a community.

Dr. Mario World do not break molds. Instead, it integrates the classic game into a modern mobile gaming environment. This gives rise to tricky puzzles when I play, but may not appeal to players looking for a simple puzzle game. For those who hold on, there is necessarily charm and challenge.
