Dragon Age Creator Joins New Yellow Brick Games Studio, Working On New Game

Mike Laidlaw, best known as the Creative Director of the Dragon Age franchise, opened a studio with three other designers who have worked on some of the biggest AAA video game series over the past decade.

Laidlaw will join Ubisoft veterans Thomas Giroux (The crew), Jeff Skalski and Frederic St.-Laurent B. (both Assassin’s Creed Syndicate) by creating Yellow Brick Games, “an independent studio dedicated to creating new, original and high-quality games,” the studio said in a press release. The Yellow Brick Games will be based in Quebec.

Giroux is the CEO of Yellow Brick; Skalski is executive producer and chief operating officer; Laidlaw is the Creative Director and St.-Laurent B. is the Game Director. The press release indicates that the studio already has 15 employees and that they are “already creating a first original game that will exploit the capabilities of the platforms. new generation forms of play ”.

Laidlaw joined Ubisoft Quebec, maker of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, in 2018. He left this studio in February. Prior to his stint at Ubisoft, Laidlaw spent 14 years at BioWare, designing and creating the Dragon Age series, with credits on the Mass Effect series and Jade Empire, as well. Laidlaw left BioWare in October 2017.

“We have learned a lot by working on world-class, multi-year projects with thousands of colleagues and we want to take a different approach,” Skalski said. “By leveraging a small, talented team where people come first, we’ll create amazing worlds and experiences for everyone else to enjoy.”
