Square Enix has announced Dragon Quest Walk, a location-based mobile game similar to Pokemon Go.

Dedicated this year in Japan, Dragon Quest Walk will offer "a story that develops as you walk". The quests will take place in various places in Japan, as Pokemon Go does to generate PokeStops in named places of the real world.

The official game site, translated by Gematsu, indicates that players will be able to "walk the grounds and talk to city dwellers while pursuing their quest. Fight against various monsters, grow up, prepare your equipment and even challenge huge enemies. It is also possible to create a room and decorate it with items obtained by the game.

A closed beta test will begin on June 11, involving 10,000 iOS users and 10,000 Android users.

The announcement contained no information on a global release. It is not yet known if Dragon Quest Walk will eventually be available outside of Japan.

If you're looking for a more secure Dragon Quest portable experience in the West, be sure to check out Dragon Quest XI, which has been announced for Nintendo Switch.
