Dragon Quest XII could reflect the future of the series for the next decade

In an interview, Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda said that Dragon Quest XII: Flames of Destiny could reflect the future of the series for the next ten to twenty years. Additionally, Matsuda shared that while parts of the upcoming title will reflect the conventional image of the Dragon Quest Series, innovation is essential to move the series forward. In May 2021, Square Enix announced Dragon Quest XII during the 35th anniversary airing of the series. The show revealed that the “command combat system” would receive some changes. The combat system will be revamped for the next title. However, that’s all we know, as no potential changes have been revealed yet.

Additionally, Dragon Quest XII will have a darker history compared to previous entries. Details regarding the story are currently not being disclosed and more information will emerge in the future. Apart from the initial announcement and a few previously shared information, a potential release date is still not announced. An archived version of the show is currently available on Square Enix’s YouTube channel. However, the show is only available in Japanese.

Dragon Quest XII: Flames of Destiny is currently in development. The release date and potential platforms have yet to be revealed.
