Things started slowly for the USC Trojans at Saturday’s meeting in Washington state. They fell 14-0 behind and lost starting quarterback Kedon Slovis to a neck and upper back injury. However, they had Drake in London and Washington State did not.
It mattered.
Things started to change in the direction of USC at the end of the second quarter. True rookie Jaxson Dart brought the Trojans to life with a touchdown pass just before half-time to reduce the Cougars’ lead to 14-7. From there, the Trojans’ offense exploded for 38 points in the second half in the 45-14 victory.
Wide receiver Drake London was one of the main reasons this offense was able to take control of the game and help the Trojans restore order.
The receiver finished the game with 13 receptions for 170 yards and two touchdowns. He did most of his damage in that second half, capturing 9 passes for 114 yards and both touchdowns.

London developed an instant connection with Dart, a freshman quarterback. This is a huge positive point for the team in all circumstances. It would become especially valuable if Slovis’ injury limited his effectiveness.
For USC fans, it’s no secret that London erupted in this game. Trojan horse insiders have long known that he is an important player. Now the nation has seen this in a very real way on Fox TV against Washington State. London was one of the main reasons for the Donte Williams era’s first victory at USC.
